Dr. Perna combines over 25 years of experience and extensive education with personal concern for patients’ oral health. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts and Northwestern University Dental School, where he was elected to the National Dental Honor Society. Afterward, he completed a two-year general practice residency program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, a two-year fellowship at the National Institute of Dental Research in Bethesda, MD, and a post-graduate program in implant dentistry at the Misch Implant Institute in Dearborn, MI. Since then, Dr. Perna has earned hundreds of hours of continuing education credits in implant dentistry, periodontal therapy, and endodontics. He founded the Northwest Implant Study Group and is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, and American Academy of Implant Dentistry. When he’s not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, making music on the piano, and biking. On May 17, 2018, after passing a rigorous examination on implant dentistry, John Perna, DDS joined 500 other dentists in the United States, Canada, and Internationally in becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID), making Dr. Perna one of the worldwide leading experts in implant care. To sit for the examination, Dr. Perna was required to practice implant dentistry for at least seven years and prove his implant expertise. To earn the title of Diplomate. Dr. Perna presented cases for review by an expert panel or implant dentists and passed a series of written and oral examinations sponsored by the American Board of Oral implantology/Implant Dentistry. The ABOI/ID ‘s examination process measures the in-depth knowledge. proficient skills, and abilities required for practitioners to provide comprehensive, safe, and effective oral implant care for the public.

I have had great results with this dentist.
For many years I had a fear of the dentist office, so my teeth and gums were in bad shape when I came to this office. Dr. Perna and his staff of professionals healed my gums and educated me on proper dental hygiene. They helped me achieve dental health and I am deeply grateful!

I've been a patient of Dental Care of Oak Park for 19 years. Dr. Perna and the staff have always been really great to deal with. I've had all sorts of procedures done and Dr. Perna has taken the time to explain the process.
Dr. Perna seems to really know his stuff. His equipment is super modern, digital xrays.
I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Perna's. And I Just survived my first implant! It looks and feels great! I knew I had chosen the right doctor because Dr. Perna LOVES doing implants by his own admission. And indeed, he is very careful to explain every step of the process, answer any questions, and most importantly to me, he reads body language, and responds to every little wince or twinge with a question to make sure I'm doing okay. He is a compassionate and extremely competent dentist.

I always have a great experience here- starting with an ease of making an appointment, friendliness of all staff and excellent care of Dr Perna. I had small issues and big ones over the years and each time I was treated with great sympathy, utmost care and professionalism. Dr Perna staff will spend time with you so you never feel rushed. I should mention that billing questions are answered promptly and in details.

This is my second visit with Dr. Erid and he is amazing. During my first visit, the were tons of x-rays taken and he took his time to explain everything to me, gave me my different options, and didn't pressure or rush me. Second visit, was also amazing, he was gentle and patient during the procedure. He was also considerate of my pain levels. All of the staff are very friendly.
