Sunbird Train Mart is the most en-ethically and incompetently run business I've ever dealt with. I've had to file a Master Card dispute, and a complaint with the Colorado BBB. I ordered 14 train books from them. Three of them had the wrong titles sent; a forth wasn't even sent at all. At one point, he told me a book I'd ordered, and they (possibly intentionally) sent me a different title, was no longer in stock or available. Then they ship it to me anyway, so he was obviously lying. They packed very poorly and 9 of the books in my second order were damaged. First he tried to blame UPS and then me. It was their lack of proper packaging that was the fault. Not sure if he was intentionally sending the wrong books, and charging me for books not sent, of if they are just really disorganized. So I return 9 defective books unopened and in the same condition I received them. He wouldn't refund my payment and wouldn't even give me a straight answer. I finally had to file a Master Card Dispute only for the price of the 9 returned books. He has payment for the five books still in my possession. Now he's claiming I owe him for another book. Next, he made a fraudulent and unauthorized charge against my credit card taking back Master Card's provisional refund. That was six weeks after I last authorized him to charge my card. My bank advised me to have a new credit card reissued so he couldn't make any more fraudulent charges. Pretty bad when you have to get a new credit card to guard again unethical and illegal activities by a Hobby Shop owner. I have provided documentation to him over and over and over showing the list of books and what I paid for, and that I only asked for refund for the returned books. In fact, I absorbed the shipping costs each way and didn't even file for a refund of that - just the 9 defective books I returned unopened. He still keeps erroneously insisting I owe him for a tenth book and lying to his bank and Master Card about it. I have provided all parties with the proper documentation showing the list of titles and payment. If you look on the Colorado BBB's web site you will see there have been multiple complaints about Sunbird Train Mart and they were on the BBB "Watch List".I buy lot of Train Books from a lot of sellers and have never seen anything like this before. I'd stay as far away as you can. Otherwise, you might end up with a three month nightmare of credit card disputes and reissuing a new credit card. I've already purchased new copies of the 9 returned titles from another ethical seller and am quite happy with my business with the other Hobby Shop.

I paid $599USD for an MTH Big Boy including postage after Sunbird Train Mart implied by email that the model was in stock. Nearly 7 months later, after non delivery due to problems at MTH, I requested my money back as a further 5 month delay was advised by MTH. During this period Sunbird did not contact me once to let me know of the train production delays. I got all my information by contacting MTH.Sunbird refuses to refund my money on the grounds that it will adversely affect their relationship with their distributor if the order is cancelled. This is despite my offer to leave a $60 deposit as a firm order.Avoid this business like the plague.

I will never go back!! I stopped in, finding the place on accident when I was getting some printing done next door. Having had model trains as a kid, I was excited to find a place that sold them, and perfect timing right before the holidays. That was the end of the excitement. I made the unfortunate mistake of carrying the binder of materials I still had in my hand from the print shop. I tried to approach the person behind the counter to ask some questions about the trains, and was cut off mid sentence with, "This isn't a good week for salespeople." Not eye contact. Not a question. He didn't even look up from what he was working on. Just an assumption and a brush off. I was actually relieved that he had shown his true colors before I had a chance to contribute to his livelihood.

These people have HORRIBLE customer service. When I ordered nothing was mentioned of any timeframe, was never sent a receipt and was of course charged immediately. So here we are one month later and still nothing but excuses. They blame everything on other factors, of course nothing is ever their fault. A simple – “this might take up to a month” would have been nice when ordered. Heck, even a “gee, we really do not know how long this will take” would have done. But no, they have no control over anything and if I want a refund it “will cost me…” Pathetic.

Sunbird Trainmart is a big scam. I have had nothing but trouble with them charging my credit card and never sending merchandise. Also they do not comply with the FTC ruling to give customers 30 day notice if they cannot ship an order. Plus, this is what Con-Cor says about them: "I would not deal with Sunbird, they bounced a $2000 check on us several years ago and have nevermade it good, I would immediately call your credit card company and cancel that sale and get arefund, if they cheated us, they will cheat you.."

I’ve been visiting Sunbird Train Mart for well over ten years, traveling 50 miles about three times a year to see what’s new in model railroading. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff that is always willing to answer questions about the model-railroading hobby. Pricing is very competitive. My visits are more relaxing and less costly than traveling to Denver to visit a certain caboose-based hobby store. Sun Bird has an extensive array of brand name models including Micro-Trains, Atlas and Kato. They specialize in every scale imaginable, from Z – G, and also have a wide variety of European imports. They have very nice trade-in values for old trains you no longer have a need for.
